NMO news for November 2010, #2

Hello orienteers!

November 20 classic O meet

Meet registrar Una Smith has received advance registrations from over 100 competitors for our meet tomorrow (http://www.nm-orienteers.org/node/161). Answers to frequently asked questions have been added to our web page about the Cienega Canyon map (http://www.nm-orienteers.org/node/126): more driving directions, where to eat and get gas, safety message.

Meet director Andrea Carvey has been very busy setting courses between trips out of state. High quality course setting requires many days of field work. Andrea has been assisted by Robert and Edna Schwartz (who live way over in west Texas!), Jerry Boyd, Stephen White, and Jeff Hunker.

It is not too late! You can still register at the check-in table during the meet. Remember that Starts close at noon so plan to arrive by 11am at the latest. Registration opens at 9am. Courses close at 2pm; you must return to the Finish by 2pm. The weather forecast is mostly sunny, highs near 55F, very low humidity, and breezy. These are Red Flag conditions, so please light no flames.

To save yourself a few minutes at the meet, you may like to download and print these forms to bring with you:

News of our members

We are gathering orienteering-related bits of news from and about NMO members and our many NMO club friends. Please send yours to Una Smith!

Event schedule for 2011

We are setting dates for 2011. Orienteering meet dates are tentatively set for May and October in Los Alamos (meet directors Tami Martinson, Una Smith). ARDF championships are set for September but we won't say where. How is time for you to volunteer! We need meet directors, course setters, course vetters, and meet staff. We would like to do more mapping too, and now that Judy Opsahl has moved to California we need someone to take over teaching classes to help orienteers transition from beginner to intermediate to advanced courses. Una has Judy's teaching materials. Not sure you know how to do these jobs? Volunteer to assist and we will teach you.
