NMO Course Design Workshop

Event Time:
Saturday, January 15, 2011 - 2:00pm - 5:00pm

Location: Albuquerque, Cherry Hills Library, meeting room. Note new end time: 5pm (the library closes at 6pm).

Orienteering course design workshop. Intended for advanced orienteers, especially course vetters, who want to move up to designing courses, and for orienteering course designers who want to improve their skills and the quality of their courses.

Bring a laptop (optional), any base maps you intend to use (electronic or paper), ideas, and questions. The library has free WiFi internet and we will have laptops and memory sticks on hand for exchanging files. See how other NMO course designers and setters have been using software such as OCAD and Purple Pen to create great course maps. Try out this software yourself, on your own project. Also hear about our plans for new orienteering maps around the state.

Our goal is for everyone at the workshop to make a full set of draft course designs for an orienteering meet or related training activity in 2011.

Requirements: NMO membership for 2011 and advance registration. Please fill out the membership form and mail it with payment to Jerry Boyd. (Adventure racing organizers and youth group leaders please contact Jerry or Una to discuss working with New Mexico Orienteers to our mutual benefit.) To register for this workshop please use the Signup feature at the bottom of this page or contact Una Smith.

Miscellaneous: Andrea Carvey will demonstrate how to fold controls.
