The Sandia Ranger District, Cibola National Forest has closed the following picnic areas due to bear activity for the next two weeks: Cienega, Sulphur, and Doc Long

Many of the black bears frequenting and living in and around the Sandia and Mountainair Ranger Districts have become habituated to human food and have become a nuisance and safety concern. An ongoing education program has been aimed at informing the public about proper food storage and disposal of garbage; however, not all Forest visitors have cooperated.

Recently I have had some email conversations regarding USOF and something has been identified that I would like to bring to the attention of our group.

USOF has been providing LOTS of support to our club ( mapping loans , grants and low cost insurance). Currently there are only 3 members of our club that are members of USOF.

There are advantages to join USOF

1. USOF puts out a publication (ONA) that is part of your membership. This is a good way to get news about other events and what is going on.
2. USOF have provided our club lots of support.

The next meet in the Los Alamos area will be a regular meet on June 6th from 10 AM to 2 PM (starts 10 Am to 1 PM). Judy Opsahl will be meet director. The start and finish will be at the Pajarito Trailhead parking lot (just west of the Gun Club), and we will use (mostly) the new Lower Rendija map.

Robi Mulford set a couple of interesting and fun to do courses for the Street O on last Saturday. Unfortunately only one person (Don Siebe) went out of the long course (and proclaimed it a great course). Three parties, all newcomers to the sport, did the short course and enjoyed it (despite the fact that it wasn't specifically a beginners course). It was a beautiful day, and having the start/finish at the PEEC during their Earth Day celebration meant you could easily come, spend the day, and enjoy both activities.
